Heather Beveridge, MSW
Hello from Heather
Heather was inspired to become a social worker thanks to her childhood experiences related to being born with a congenital anomaly. It required frequent doctor’s appointments, surgeries and hospitalizations. Heather received excellent medical care however, there was little support around the psychosocial challenges (i.e., impact on self-confidence, self-identity and body image, bullying ).
For over a decade, she worked at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto with children and families dealing with trauma, chronic health conditions, life-threatening illnesses, mental illness, and disabilities.
In 2009, she relocated to beautiful Vancouver, BC, to pursue a PhD, and worked at BC Children’s Hospital as well as a non-profit organization supporting burn survivors/ their families and first responders. Throughout her career she has participated in many global health initiatives in Kenya, Uganda, Nicaragua and Russia.
In 2021, she moved to a full-time counselling practice to provide support during a time of increased awareness and interest in mental health counselling, and started mentoring and supervising counselling students.
She enjoys working with individuals experiencing a range of challenges in life and working together to improve their overall quality of life.
